Some USC online services require access through on-campus USC Secure Wireless or a wired network connection. USC offers Virtual Private Networking (VPN) to provide secure remote access to these services when you are off-campus. Use AnyConnect VPN if you are away from the USC campus and are unable to connect to services. Additionally, you must use AnyConnect VPN to access internal USC systems handling confidential or sensitive data, such as Student Information Systems (SIS), and file servers for specific schools and departments.
Please be aware that you DO NOT need to use AnyConnect VPN when accessing Blackboard, Zoom, Workday, ServiceNow, Microsoft Office 365 or Google Apps at USC.
Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client VPN User Messages, Release 3.1 October 15, 2012 The following user messages appear on the AnyConnect client GUI. A description follows each message, along. May 01, 2018 Windows 10 Always On VPN is the replacement for Microsoft’s DirectAccess remote access technology. Always On VPN aims to address several shortcomings of DirectAccess, including support for Windows 10 Professional and non-domain joined devices, as well as cloud integration with Intune and Azure Active Directory.
Examples of Applications that Require AnyConnect VPN
- Cisco AnyConnect is a popular VPN that co-exists effectively with other Cisco products. Designed in an era when remote access was primarily done on smaller scales in fixed environments, it is well suited to a vast number of organizations that have simple, hardware-based VPN requirements – but it’s not a good fit for everyone.
- Limitations of Always-On VPN If Always-On is enabled, but the user does not log on, AnyConnect does not establish the VPN connection. AnyConnect starts the VPN connection only post-login. We really want a true Always-ON VPN experience to make management of devices easier, such as applying patches and even OS upgrades.
